Seasonal Allergies

Spring time for many is a time to plant flowers and enjoy the lovely weather after a long winter. For others is it not so pleasant due to seasonal allergies. Seasonal allergies (Hay Fever) typically occur in spring and fall, which is most commonly caused by pollen. Pollen is tiny powdery grains released from flowering plant and travel through air or insects, which enter through the eyes, nose or mouth of a person and causes an allergic reaction. Pollen may not affect some people but to others can cause major cold like symptoms. Seasonal allergies can produce many symptoms that mimic cold symptoms which include:

• Sneezing
• running nose
• congestion
• itchy throat
• itchy, red, watery eyes
• impaired sense of smell and taste
• sleep disturbances
• cough

Many people rely on over the counter drugs to help them get through the allergy season. However, those can help but provide temporary relief and to some none at all. Homeopathy is a great alternative to help cure the allergy symptoms. Homeopathy can change the way your body responds to allergens instead of suppressing it. Homeopathic remedies are derived from plant, mineral and animal sources and are used in minute doses therefore no side affects or drossiness is associated. Depending on the symptoms there are many remedies that can help.

Allium Cepa (Onion): might be the remedy if you suffer from runny nose and watery eyes. The nasal discharge may burn and irritate your nose, but the discharge from your eyes is bland. Being hot irritates the symptoms and improved by cold. Sensitive to light. Sneezing, especially when entering a warm room.

Euphrasia (Eyebright): might be the remedy if you suffer from nasal discharge that is bland and watery eyes that burn. Eyes watering all the time. Worse in the evening.

Sabadialla: has spasmodic sneezing, with running nose. Can sneeze 10 times in a row. Redness in eyes and lachrymation. Eye lids red and burn. The profuse watery discharge of the nose may be accompanied by a dull headache. They are very sensitive to all odors.

These are some of the many remedies that aid in the treatment of seasonal allergies. It is best to consult a homeopathic doctor to assess which remedy is right for you. By beating allergies naturally one can enjoy the many joys that spring offers.
